This is the third year that Playin’ Hooky Designs has had to celebrate her daughter’s birthday without her here. She is asking her fans and followers, crocheters and non crocheters alike, to help her celebrate her daughter Bryn’s birthday. She wants to do something that would make Bryn smile and is going to hang as many butterflies as she can get from a tree in Bryn’s favorite park. I say let’s make as many butterflies as we can for Bryn!! DEADLINE TO SEND THE BUTTERFLIES HAS PASSED, BUT THIS FREE PATTERN WILL REMAIN ON THE BLOG **To see Playin’ Hooky Design’s Blog post about her daughter Bryn’s 8th birthday celebration, and see where to send your butterflies, go HERE.

**Note: At the end of row 9, if desired, change to a contrasting color. Rotate work and begin border going along the side. Place a sc in each hdc row along the sides. When getting to the bottom corner, ch 6 and continue sc along the bottom of the piece. When reaching the opposite bottom corner, ch 6 and continue sc up the side. When reaching the top corner, ch 5 and sc along the top of the piece. When reaching the end, ch 5, and join to the first sc. Fasten off and weave in the ends on the wings.
Body: Cut a piece of yarn about 18 inches long of a contrasting color I used the same contrasting color that I used for the wings. Take the string and cinch the center of the wings. Make sure not to cinch it too tightly because you don’t want the body/center to be too tiny. Tie the yarn together to keep the cinch. Take one end of the yarn and wrap around the cinched center a few times. Take the other end of the yarn and wrap in the opposite direction a few times. When done, tie the two end together at the top of the body you just created. Trim the ends to make antennas.
